Participants will traverse a variety of landscapes — lakeshore paths, shaded forest trails and open grassy areas —while experienced leaders share safety guidance and local ecological insights. The outing is designed for a broad audience including faculty, staff, alumni and community members; the pace will accommodate hikers with moderate fitness and those looking for a relaxed, social outdoor experience. Please come prepared with closed-toe shoes, layered clothing, hydration, and a packed lunch or snacks. Registration is complimentary but required; please reserve your spot through the NIU Recreation registration portal prior to the event. The event photo highlights past Adventures activities on the water, with participants enjoying canoeing and paddling at Shabbona. While this hike does not include watercraft, it showcases the variety of outdoor programming NIU Adventures offers.
