"When They Call You" Essay Contest Deadline
Essays to be submitted to Ellen Franklin, efrankli@niu.edu, by Monday, October 21, 4 p.m.
Writer must be currently enrolled in First-Year Composition—English 102, 103P, 103, 103ESL, 203, 203ESL, 204, 451, 452, 453; or in UNIV 101 (University Experience)—(or placed into one of these courses for the spring semester).
Essay should address the themes of social justice, educational access, institutional racism, discrimination, immigration, identity (ethnicity, gender, class), and others raised by Khan-Cullors and Bandele’s text.
Page one of the essay should be a cover sheet, which should include the following:
- Name
- ZID#
- Campus address, email address, and telephone number
- ENGL/UNIV course and section number
Essays must be saved as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx)
The Awards Ceremony & Reception will be held on Wednesday, November 6, at 3:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Sky Room
