https://go.niu.edu/STEAMCampsDo you like to experiment and explore foods? Ever wonder why recipes call for a specific amount of an ingredient and how using too much or too little might change the way food looks and tastes? Become a food scientist at our FoodMASTER camp and learn skills you can use at home in the kitchen, like the importance of measuring and how to read and interpret food labels. We’ll experiment with acids and bases, learn how food temperature can impact food safety and more. Take home recipes to make and share with family and friends.
In this camp, you’ll learn:
- Why foods taste the way they do.
- How food changes when mixed with other foods or exposed to different temperatures.
- Ways different foods provide our bodies with nutrients needed for energy.
- The importance of making good nutrition decisions.
- Kitchen safety.
For students entering grades 2-5.
