Solidarity and Resilience: Adapting Cuba's disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in Haiti
About this Event
Climate change increases the destructiveness of hazards, such as hurricanes or wildfires, and these impacts are felt more severely in frontline communities and small island developing states, particularly the neighboring Caribbean. Anchored in international exchange from two Caribbean countries, this NSF-funded research asks how adaptation of models from one socioeconomic context to another is possible, and how low-income communities can craft resilience plans addressing local realities. The research offers a workable process to reduce vulnerability and adapt to climate change by harnessing South-South collaboration and community initiatives.
