Outdoor Adventures: Hourly Lagoon Boat Rentals

Get out and enjoy on-site, hourly rentals at the East Lagoon Wednesdays throughout the semester. It's an easy process — just sign up for a rental time starting on the hour and select a canoe, single or double kayak, or a stand-up paddleboard.   

Arrive at the East Lagoon during your selected time slot and enjoy your paddle. We have all the boats, paddles and PFDs at the lagoon waiting for you.

Our on-site hourly rentals at the East Lagoon are back. After Easter every Wednesday throughout the spring and summer take a break with a paddling session. It's an easy process — just sign up for a rental time starting on the hour.  

Watercrafts available include a 2-person canoe, 2-person kayak, 1-person kayak or a 1-person inflatable stand-up paddleboard.  If you rent a 2-person boat, your paddling partner does not need to register, the one cost includes the equipment for 2 people.  

Arrive at the East Lagoon during your selected time slot and enjoy your paddle. We have all the equipment (boats, paddles and PFDs) at the lagoon waiting for you and a staff member there to assist. 

All ages welcome. We have child size PFDs and paddles. Seventeen years old and younger require parental signature on the liability form at time of registration. Twelve years and younger require supervision on shore or on the water.  

Date and time(s): Wednesdays, April 12 to August 9, choose 4 p.m. or 5 p.m.  

Boat Rentals: NIU Student: $5, Non-Student: $10.  

Walk-up sign-ups are welcome if equipment is available. 

Online advance registration is open for boat rentals.
