Beginner Backpack at Yellow River State Forest, IA  

Need an escape from your daily routine? This weekend is for you! Join us backpacking and exploring the Yellow River State Forest in Iowa. Yellow River State Forest is in northeast Iowa and is home to stunning views, beautiful woodlands, and meandering trout streams. We will be spending time in the Paint Creek Unit, which is home to over 25 miles of scenic trails rated from easy to moderate difficulty. This trip is great for first-time backpackers or for experienced hikers looking for a great group experience. Included in the registration fee is transportation, leadership, all meals, equipment (backpacks, group cook gear, headlamps) and camping gear (sleeping bags, pads, and tents). All ages welcome! Those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian over the age of 18. 

Pre-Trip Meeting: Tues, April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Rec Center 

Date and Time: Fri, Apr 14 at 12 p.m. – Sun, Apr 16 at 8 p.m.  

Registration cost/deadline: NIU Student: $175, Non-Student: $225 by Tues, Apr 11
