NIU's 1st Annual Diversity Ball

An event for NIU students, members, and leaders of student organizations.

The Diversity ball is an open formal gala to celebrate the immense amount of ethnic groups and cultural organizations on our campus. It is dated for Wednesday, November 6th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Duke Ellington Ballroom.  Door opens to the Ballroom at 5:00 p.m.

We are excited to confirm our very own 13th President of Northern Illinois University, Lisa Freeman will be in attendance.

For the evening, an extraordinary menu of 10 very diverse hors d'oeuvres will be served by NIU’s Top Chef and will be accompanied by performances from NIU music students including:

A Cello/Piano duo:
“Tres Danzas Latina”s composed by Craig Peaslee:

I. El Nuevo Tango De KT
II. En Un Barco De Tontos
III. Baila Por Tres Pies Izquierdos

Katie Monroy - Cello
Qian Zhang – Piano

“A Steelpan Performance” (Steelpan itself is the national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago)

The goal of this event is to create a unique networking opportunity between campus organizations to embrace diversity. The ball will provide an inclusive environment where these associations can thrive. Through attending this gala, groups will be exposed to different cultures and teams which will help unleash ideas, fuel innovation, and ignite a unique and lasting amity between students that may not have otherwise happen. As a result, creating an engaging dialouge, encouraging and producing future collaboration between organizations, all inspired by the unification and harmony that is The Diversity Ball.

Tickets are $5 with partial proceeds going to NIU’s Huskie Food Pantry

Please register in advance for yourself and other organization members.  Tickets are limited.

Just a reminder you should be a leader and member of an NIU student organization(s) to attend.

I had a great time at the diveristy ball! It was nice to meet university leaders and network with people who all come from a unique background. I look forward to this becoming a regular event on campus and having as many students as we can come to this annual event.
