NIU’s New Faculty Welcome and Orientation event officially welcomes new faculty members to campus and our Division of Academic Affairs. This event provides you with the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow new faculty members, senior faculty members and key leaders in Academic Affairs while learning more about our university.

The event takes place 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, in Altgeld Hall, Room 315.

We look forward to welcoming new faculty members to join our mission to empower students through educational excellence and experiential learning as we pursue knowledge, share our research and artistry, and engage communities for the benefit of the region, state, nation and world.

Specific goals of this new faculty event include:

• Highlighting critical information about how our university’s mission, goals and values impact faculty and student experiences and success.
• Engaging new faculty with discussions about the NIU teaching experience and resources to support scholarship.
• Providing new faculty with information about policies related to academic affairs in continuing and or beginning their scholarship and in preparing a diverse student body to be leaders in their fields and to become engaged state, national and global citizens.
• Fostering a culture of engagement and service to our university and the community we serve.
• Initiating a sense of belonging, engagement and community among faculty.
