The Office of Research Development (ORD) is launching an internal competition for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends Program. NEH will only accept two proposals that are nominated by NIU for review. Only two proposals selected from this internal competition will be nominated by NIU for acceptance by NEH.

The NEH Summer Stipends Program intends to drive new research and publication of same in the humanities via small awards to individual scholars. Summer stipend awards provide two consecutive months of summer funding to support continuous full-time work on a humanities project. Awards may support salary, travel and other costs related to the proposed research.

Proposals submitted to the Summer Stipends Program must be grounded in the humanities as defined by NEH. Proposals not grounded in humanities disciplines will not be successful in the internal competition and will not be nominated to the NEH.
