The Presidential Commission on Race and Ethnicity (PCORE) would like to invite students, staff, faculty and members of the community to its annual diversity and inclusion summit and presentation of the McKinley "Deacon" Davis Diversity Awards. The award recipients will be honored on April 26th.
The 2022 diversity and inclusion summit will focus on moving through trauma. The luncheon discussion is titled “Community Healing Support: Moving through Adversity and Trauma in the Present”. The brief presentation is designed to facilitate critical reflection about self-in-community as collaborative healer moving through healing. Systems of influence related to experiencing adversity, trauma, para-traumatic supports, and post-traumatic growth will be introduced alongside tangible actions one can take as opportunities for hope and healing.
Kimberly A. Hart, Ph.D. will serve as the keynote speaker for the luncheon. She is a Clinical Assistant Profession in the College of Education Department of Counseling and Higher Education. Dr. Hart is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her research and advocacy work includes multicultural inclusion and experiential andragogy. Through her work as higher education instructor, workshop presenter, supervisor of counseling, and NIU colleague, Dr. Hart recognizes influences of trauma and retraumatizing systems as avenues for advocacy and community healing.
The 2022 PCORE Diversity and Inclusion Summit will begin with lunch at noon in the Regency Room of the Holmes Student Center. The evening session will take place in the Altgeld Auditorium located on the 2nd floor, passport credit is available for students attending the evening session from 6:00 – 8: 15 p.m.
