About this Event
550 Lucinda Ave, DeKalb, IL 60115
https://www.niu.edu/music/performances/index.shtmlThe dance troupe Shubukai continues the legacy of the Fujima School of Japanese classical dance (Nihon buyō), which is closely tied to kabuki dance choreography. The program will feature two dance performances by grandmasters Fujima Shunojo and Fujima Yoshinojo and a music performance with presentation by grandmaster Toyoaki Sanjuro, who will introduce Toyoaki Ozashiki shamisen (a three-stringed lute instrument) music. In addition to their performances, the grandmasters will share with the NIU community the roles they play not only in preserving traditional Japanese arts and creatively revitalizing them, but also strengthening Japanese American cultural consciousness. The program will end with a thirty-minute festival dance workshop/lesson!
Free and open to the public, but out of an abundance of caution and respect for the performers, the audience is asked to wear masks in the Recital Hall.
