NIU Competitive Sports requires individuals interested in on-campus employment as an official (i.e. referee) and/or scorekeeper to attend training clinic meetings prior to activity seasons beginning. Individuals do not need prior experience with either position to become a member of our team. These positions are not year-long commitments and individuals come to the training clinics for the activities they’re interested in working. There are no formal interviews; simply submit an online interest form, contact our staff, etc. We will do our best to find a spot for everyone. Training clinics help determine how many people are interested in working an activity and may also serve as the “interview” for the position. Unlike new officials meetings, staff members, including returning staff, MUST ATTEND ALL
OF THE LISTED MEETINGS (unless noted otherwise). If you cannot attend a meeting, contact us BEFORE the meeting so you may be excused. Some activities have more meetings than others due to the material needing to be covered. On average, meetings may last anywhere from one hour to two hours. Plan for meetings to be a little longer.
