Health Equity: Connecting Hearts and Minds - Real Talk & Big Ideas Series
Tuesday, February 8, 2022 12 PM to 1 PM
About this Event
February is Heart Month so we are dedicating this month's Real Talk and Big Ideas webinar to talk about the health equity in communities disproportionately affected by cardiovascular disease. Black Americans continue to experience the highest death rates due to heart disease and stroke, have a nearly 30% higher death rate from cardiovascular disease and a 45% higher death rate from stroke compared with non-Hispanic white Americans. There are many contributing factors, including systemic racism, as well as access to healthy food and water, healthcare providers, and recreational opportunities. Joining the conversation is Francesca Martinez, the National Health Equity Program Manager for the American Heart Association, and Joey Moore, Director of Barb Food Mart in DeKalb, Illinois
This session is part of the Real Talk & Big Ideas Series hosted by the Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies at NIU.
