April 24, 2026
The Gichigamiin Museum in Evanston is preparing for the growing season and seeking student volunteers to help refresh and ready their garden spaces. We are breaking the day into two-hour shifts, but please feel free to stay as long as you'd like. No experience needed — just bring curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands in the soil.
🌿 Volunteer activities may include:
- Building a bean trellis.
- Cleaning up the sunflower bed by removing rocks, mint and English ivy.
- Adding chicken‑wire protection for woodland phlox.
- Assisting with seed packet making for community programs.
🎁 Volunteer perk: Free museum tour.
Volunteers will receive free access to explore the Gichigamiin Museum, with opportunities to learn about native plants, their cultural significance and the Indigenous peoples connected to this region.
🌻 Why join us?
- Spend time outdoors.
- Learn about local ecology and Indigenous knowledge.
- Support community-centered environmental and cultural education.
- Connect with other students interested in sustainability and gardening.
