About this Event
The Denim Day campaign was created to support survivors of sexual violence after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt the victim must have helped remove her jeans since they were too tight, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
Since this court case, Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against sexual violence. This year, Denim Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24th. On Denim Day, Counseling and Consultation Services is encouraging all faculty, staff, and students wear jeans in an effort to support survivors and raise awareness for all forms of sexual violence.
