Professor Garrett Clayton is Director of the Center for Nonlinear Dynamics & Control, which has one of the highest concentrations of controls-oriented faculty in the region. Its inclusive environment includes doctorate, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as faculty from different engineering disciplines who collaborate on a broad range of applications. Garrett has used his expertise to work on issues of demining in Cambodia using robotics. In a country where more than 1.1 million acres are contaminated with explosive remnants of war, the nonprofit was looking for ways to develop robotic solutions to help technicians with their disposal. He has traveled to Cambodia eight times in the last six years, becoming a leader in research and development for humanitarian mine action, also becoming part of the community of Cambodian engineers working on similar projects.
