Community Learning Series: Playing the Game

Sport is a multi-billion dollar industry and is a wide-reaching, global enterprise. While the glitz and glamour of high-profiled athletes, state-of-the-art venues, and world championships are at the forefront of the industry, fans who come to cheer on their favorite teams rarely think about what happened behind the scenes -- from ticketing, parking and concessions to videoboard messages and play-by-play announcers, to deliver each fun-filled trip to the ballpark, stadium or arena. What background operations are necessary to create a successful event? How do sport marketers dream up brilliant and novel ideas to keep fans coming? Learn from some industry experts and NIU alums on how it all works – and how to position yourself for a rewarding career in the industry.
