Civics for Nonprofits: How and Why to do Advocacy
Topics include a review of governmental structures (federal, state and local), the basic roles and responsibilities of elected officials in government, the different structures of local government including the origins and scope of the statutory authority for various units of local government. Participants will also learn about ways that nonprofit organizations and their representatives can participate in advocacy, staying within the boundaries of nonprofit advocacy regulations. Presented by Dr. Greg Kuhn, Center for Governmental Studies and Dr. Alicia Schatteman, Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies at Northern Illinois University.
