Amplifying Women's Voices: The Protest Potential of Social Media Images
Social media images are powerful statements of defiance and injustice, and can be important for social movements. Parichehr Kazemi, a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of Oregon, will share her research on how women use social media images and videos as a form of feminist activism in Iran. Forming a new avenue of political expression, women document their participation in peaceful, everyday activities and share this content online to protest oppressive government policies.
