Exhibition - School of Art Faculty Biennial
The Northern Illinois University Art Museum will host the NIU School of Art Faculty Biennial from Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 through Saturday, February 15th, 2014. The Opening Reception for the exhibition will be Thursday, November 21st from 4:30 – 6:00p.m; a closing reception will also be held on Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 from 4:30 – 6:00p.m. The Museum will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend and from December 19th, 2013 – January 6, 2014 for Winter Recess.
The NIU School of Art Faculty Biennial features new art work and research by current full and part time faculty of the Northern Illinois University School of Art. Artists and scholars will be exhibiting works in variety of media including: ceramics, design, drawing, illustration, metal work, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication; art historical research will also be on display. This exhibition provides an opportunity for NIU and the greater DeKalb/Sycamore community to discover or become reacquainted with the research, ideas, and artwork of the NIU School of Art faculty members.
The 2013-2014 NIU School of Art Faculty Biennial includes the research and artwork of: Leif Allmendinger, Michael Barnes, Blaine Bradford, Karen Brown, Todd Buck, Juan Fernandez, Eric Fuertes, Billie Giese, Aleksandra Giza, Cynthia Hellyer-Heinz, Rebecca Houze, Kevin Hunter, Barbara Jaffee, James Kearns, Yih-Wen Kuo, Jessica LaBatte, Christine LoFaso, Li-Fen Lu, Kimberly Martens, Ashley Nason, Peter Olson, Jamie Obermeier, Mary Quinlan, Catherine Raymond, Michael Rea, Nina Rizzo, Charlotte Rollman, Kurt Schultz, Lee Sido, Richard Siegesmund, Geoffrey Todd Smith, Kryssi Staikidis, Ben Stone, Frank Trankina, Peter Van Ael, Shei-Chau Wang, Bart Woodstrup, and David Willett. An extensive schedule of free public programming relating to the exhibition will be offered in January and February of 2014.
The NIU Art Museum is located on the first floor, west end of Altgeld Hall, “the castle”, at the northwest corner of College and Castle Drives on the NIU campus in DeKalb. The galleries are open to the public Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday 12 noon – 4 p.m., and by appointment for large groups and guided tours. Exhibitions are always free; donations are appreciated. Pay parking is available in the Visitor’s Lot on Carroll Avenue and at metered spots in front of Altgeld Hall. Free parking is available on Saturdays and during receptions and visiting artist lectures in the lot northeast of Gilbert and College Drives.
