Evolution of Ballet
The spring dance concert features both the classical and the contemporary ballet training that is a trademark of the dance performance program of Northern Illinois University’s School of Theatre and Dance, with its restaging of the ballet, Esmeralda. In this restaged production, the dancers will be performing a combination of classical ballet, contemporary pointe ballet, as well as contemporary ballet without pointe.
This collection of related techniques highlights how contemporary choreography is firmly rooted in classical ballet. More importantly, it emphasizes how that cultivation can be integrated into a contemporary dance performance.
Evolution of Ballet displays the versatility of ballet as an aesthetic and the avenues by which it advances.
